• About

CWRI Mawney Community Works Rhode Island (CWRI) creates opportunities within the neighborhoods it serves for people to live in affordable and healthy homes, to improve their lives and to strengthen their communities. The goal is to transform underserved neighborhoods to be more sustainable.

CWRI is a CDC which recently formed from the merger of the Elmwood Foundation, and Greater Elmwood Neighborhood Services. These organizations each had 30 year histories in the South Side of Providence, RI and created a total of 1000 housing units and invested over $60 million in the local community.

CWRI provides a comprehensive approach to community stabilization through investment in housing and commercial space; management of its asset portfolio; community building and organizing; and foreclosure counseling, financial literacy and homeownership training.

By creating innovative and collaborative partnerships that lead to safe, stable and sustainable neighborhoods, CWRI  plays a leadership role in mitigating negative impacts of the current economic climate  and creating opportunities in the State’s urban areas.
